Built by Beriah Magoffin, Sr., Beriah Magoffin, Jr. and his wife Anne Shelby, (granddaughter of Isaac Shelby the first governor of Kentucky) resided here after 1839.
Later owned by Benjamin Mills noted gunsmith and commander of Harper's Ferry at the time of John Brown's famous Raid.
Purchased by M. R. Gaither in 1870, the family held title to the property for over a century.
Construction methods indicate a pre-1830 building date. Unusual tamped clay insulation is between basement and first floor living quarters.
